The burning of residential waste, which includes landscape waste (i.e. leaves, grass clippings, brush, etc.), is illegal in most areas of Stark County. Recently, the Air Pollution Control Division conducted a phone survey on leaf disposal plans for residences in the following communities:

 

ALLIANCE CITY - Curbside pickup of leaves placed within plastic bags will be done on a year-round basis when they are placed with regular trash.   Collection of loose leaves will begin Nov. 2, 2009.   Loose leaves must be placed in the curb lane and will be picked up in each area only once.  For more information on dates and areas for loose leaf pickup, call the Alliance Street Department at (330) 823-3133.

 

BEACH CITY - Curbside pickup of loose leaves from Oct. 21 through Nov. 25, 2009.  Residents are required to place their loose leaves at the end of their property, next to the street. (330) 756-2312. Yard Waste Collection Program accepting unbagged grass, leaves, shrubs, stumps, and branches behind the Police Department on Church Street from dawn until dusk.

 

BREWSTER VILLAGE - Curbside pickup of loose leaves beginning the week of Oct. 19, 2009.  Residents are required to rake their loose leaves to the curb.  A schedule will be posted on the bulletin board in front of the Village Hall.  Yard Waste Collection Program accepting unbagged grass, leaves, shrubs, stumps, and branches at the Street Department on West First Street  Monday-Friday 7:00 am -3:30 pm and the 2nd & 4th Sat.  10:00 am -1:00 pm. CANAL FULTON - Loose leaves raked to the curbside (no bags) began on all community streets on Thur., Oct. 1 through Wed., Nov. 25, 2009.  Collections will be made Mon. through Fri..  No rubbish or other yard wastes will be collected with leaves.  Drop-off site for leaves is located at 950 Water Street. CANTON CITY -  Curbside pickup of bagged leaves by sanitation department on regular trash pickup day, beginning Nov. 2 through Nov. 30, 2009.  Leaves must be in plastic bags (45 gallon maximum).  Do NOT rake any loose leaves into street.  (330) 489-3020

 

EAST CANTON - Collection at the Village Park beginning Oct. 23 through Nov. 24, 2009.  Leaves must be removed from bags and placed within the dumpster on site.  Leaves only; no other debris.  (330) 488-0220

 

EAST SPARTA - Residents are responsible for leaf removal. 

 

HARTVILLE VILLAGE – Leaf pickup for citizens in the village starting Oct. 1 through Nov. 30, 2009.  Leaves should be placed in the front of the residence--not more than three feet from the road.  Note:  If grass, limbs, rocks or trash are in with leaves, they will not be picked up.  There is no specific pickup schedule.   (330) 877-9222        

 

JACKSON TOWNSHIP - Leaf drop-off location is at South Park, located on the south side of Fulton Drive, just west of Jackson High School.  Drop-off times are 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Apr. 1 through Oct. 31, 2009 and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Nov. 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.  Leaves, brush and branches will be accepted.  If residents use plastic bags when dropping their leaves off, they must remove the bags.  Curbside Pickup: the Township will pick up leaves bagged in Recyclable Paper Bags only.  Curbside pickup for bagged leaves will start throughout the month of November, 2009.

 

LAKE TOWNSHIP - Yard Waste Collection Program accepting unbagged grass, leaves, shrubs, stumps, and branches at the Recycle Center, 1505 Midway St. from dawn until dusk, 7 days a week. (330) 877-9479 

 

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP -   Leaves placed curbside in 30 gallon, recyclable yard waste bags only, Oct. 13 through Nov. 27, 2009.   No other types of bags and no other types of debris other than leaves will be collected.  Bags are available at local hardware stores. Do not tape top of bags shut.  Place bags at curb or side of road.  Pickup will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 am until 3:00 pm.     (330) 854-3494.  If you have quantities over 10, you can call for pickup (330) 854-3830.

 

LOUISVILLE - Yard waste disposal available for city residents only at 1022 W. Main St. (rear) every day dawn to dusk, October 1 through Dec. 5, 2009.  Any composting, yard waste will be accepted e.g. grass clippings. 

 

MAGNOLIA - Pickup of bagged leaves at the curb has already begun and will continue until the end of Nov., 2009.  If possible, residents are asked to use bio-degradable bags. No garbage may be mixed in!   (330) 866-2620

 

MASSILLON -THERE WILL BE NO LEAF VACUUMING THIS YEAR.  All leaves must be bagged and placed at the curb or street for removal.  Plastic or paper bags are acceptable.  Leaf removal will begin Monday, Oct. 26 and end Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.  During that time period, there will be a few pickups made on each street throughout the City, but a specific schedule will not be maintained at this time.  To assist the City of Massillon with this task, please observe the following rules and requirements:

  

        All BAGGED leaves must be placed at curb/street.

        Do NOT rake any loose leaves into street.

        ONLY LEAVES are to be bagged for pickup.

        NO grass, branches or other vegetation will be accepted.

        NO stones, bricks, dirt or sod will be accepted.

 

Bagged leaves may be dropped off from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Mon. through Fri., at the City Garage, 401 Walnut Rd., SW.   Drop-off sites listed can be used at any time during daylight hours.  These drop-off sites are for MASSILLON RESIDENTS ONLY.  No Commercial haulers will be permitted to use these sites. Wampler Park 1800 Block W. Main Ave.  (North of Skating Rink in parking area);  Reservoir Park, South of Tennis Courts (Off North Ave., NE).

 

MEYERS LAKE- Major pickup of bagged leaves will be Fri., Nov. 20, 2009, when placed with the regularly scheduled trash. (330) 452-1566

 

NAVARRE -  Daily curbside pickup of loose leaves beginning Oct. 19 through Nov. 25, 2009.  Pickup includes downtown areas on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the annexed areas to the North on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  All loose leaves are to be raked to the curb and placed in rows, avoiding large piles.  Please remove all sticks, stones and other debris that can clog the vacuum. NIMISHILLEN Township -  Residents of Nimishillen Twp., as well as the rest of Stark County, may drop off leaves, grass clippings, and ordinary yard waste, including sod and branches, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day at the Nimishillen Twp.  Garage (4915 North Nickelplate, Louisville).  Participants are to remove materials from plastic bags and take the bags with them.   No treated wood accepted.  (330) 875-9924

 

NORTH CANTON - To participate in the leaf recycling program, you simply need to put leaves into paper bags and put them curbside, separated from regular trash, on regularly scheduled garbage pickup days beginning Oct. 27 through Dec. 4, 2009.  The City of North Canton will offer up to 25 free leaf bags per household, while supplies last.  City residents can pick up bags beginning Oct. 20 through Nov. 25 at the North Canton Civic Center, 845 W. Maple St. between noon and 6:00 pm weekdays, and Sat. 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  For further information, call the Mayor’s Office at (330) 499-5081.

 

PARIS TOWNSHIP - Yard Waste Collection Program accepting unbagged grass, leaves, shrubs, stumps, and branches at the Paris Twp. office, 14220 Freed Street, SE, Mon.-Fri. 7:00 am -3:00 pm and the 2nd & 4th Sat. from 9:00 am -Noon.

 

PERRY TOWNSHIP -  Dumpster will be available for unbagged leaves only, from Oct. 17 through Nov. 22, 2009 (excluding Nov. 11) at the Perry Twp. Garage, 1500 Jackson Ave., SW, weekdays from 7:00 am until 2:30 pm and Sat. & Sun. from 8:00 am until 3:30 pm.  NO tree limbs will be accepted; also, no bagged garbage and no commercial dumping is allowed. (330) 832-7750 Bags used to transport leaves must be taken home.  Recycling department is accepting yard waste all year–everything except large tree stumps. Everything will be recycled.

 

PLAIN TOWNSHIP - Drop off of bagged leaves only for Plain Twp. residents at Fire Station #4 (2855 Easton St., NE) from Oct. 13 through Nov. 25, 2009.  The site will be open seven days a week from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. It will be closed for Veterans' Day, November 11.  The second unassisted drop-off site will be provided by Warstler Brothers Landscaping at 4125 Salway Ave., NW, near William Day Elementary School.  Recycling will continue through the fall season:  Mon. through Fri. from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm and Sat. from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. No Sundays.  Leaves, branches, grass and other yard waste are accepted at the unassisted site.  Materials may either be in paper bags or loose.  No plastic bags will be accepted.  A pass is not required for the unassisted sites.  No commercial dumping is allowed.

 

TUSCARAWAS TOWNSHIP - Yard Waste Collection Program accepting unbagged grass, leaves, shrubs, stumps, and branches at the Street Department, 956 Manchester Road, SW, 7 days a week.   (330) 832-6273

 

WILMOT - Yard Waste Collection Program accepting unbagged grass, leaves, shrubs, stumps, and branches behind the post office on Rt. 250 dawn till dusk.
