Lead Poisoning Prevention

Clinic Times:
1st and 3rd Monday of every month
8:00 am - 10:30 am.

The Canton City Health Department participates in the Ohio Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Health. The Lead program helps to facilitate the primary prevention efforts, as well as childhood lead testing, and medical follow-up services for children with lead poisoning in the city of Canton. The Environmental Health (EH) Department conducts environmental assessments and interventions to eliminate exposure to lead. Education and consultation services about lead poisoning prevention may be provided by a public health nurse.

 

Services Include:

  • Free lead testing for children 12 months to 5 years of age
  • Lead inspections for homes with lead poisoned children
  • Free HEPA vacuum loan for lead hazard clean-up
  • Presentation to Canton community organization, neighborhood associations, day care centers, and school staff
  • Displays of lead educational information at fairs and special events

 

Toy Recalls

Lead is is sometimes used in the production of toys, and exposure to lead is potentially hazardous, especially to children. Recall updates and additional information can be found through the Consumer Products Safety Commission at www.cpsc.gov.
