The goal of the food protection program of the Canton City Health Department is to assure that safe, wholesome food is provided to our citizens. To that end, our food protection staff regularly inspects all food service operations and food establishments. We strive to educate and inform the operators of food operations within our jurisdiction, believing that education is the best tool toward food safety. Inspection frequency is based upon state law and is determined by the risk classification of the operation. In addition, all food-borne illness complaints are investigated by our unit, and laboratory testing is implemented when a food-borne outbreak is suspected. In addition to our regular inspection of food operations, this unit also conducts regular inspections of licensed vending machines, mobile food units, and temporary food operations.
