This Division is responsible for checking the compliance status of companies with air pollution sources by reviewing required reports, on site inspections, requesting compliance tests, and investigating citizens' complaints. Air Pollution Control is responsible for all of Stark County. This jurisdiction is made possible by an annual contract between the Canton Board of Health and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Various other air pollution duties are also required including inspections of asbestos removal activities, checking for vehicle emission control tampering, checking lead content in gasoline, maintaining an emission inventory system for major sources of pollution, inspecting sources of hazardous air pollutants, investigating illegal open burning, and developing an air toxics program.
